As we report over on our sister blog, the Washington Insider, Carmen Nazario has been confirmed as the new head of the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
While Promise Neighborhoods is lodged in the U.S. Department of Education, Nazario’s agency will also play an important role. ACF oversees many federal social programs that are likely to provide funding for the social services side of Promise Neighborhood initiatives, including Head Start, child care, and many others.
During her testimony before the Senate Finance Committee, she emphasized community building and cross-departmental collaboration as priorities. Sounds right up our alley.
